The story follows Indian revolutionary Udham Singh who assassinated former Lieutenant Governor of Punjab Michael O’Dwyer on March 13, 1940. The Irish colonial officer was responsible for the Amritsar (Jallianwala Bagh) massacre in 1919 in London.

The film was shot in India and Russia.
Scenes set in London were shot in St. Petersburg.
After his death, Udham Singh was hailed as a hero and the honoured as Shaheed-E-Azam (Great Martyr).
During the trial, Udham delivered a powerful speech condemning British colonial rule and expressing support for the Indian independence movement.
While in custody, he used the name Ram Mohammad Singh Azad, symbolizing the unity of India’s three major religions and his anti-colonialist sentiments.
Udham Singh was convicted of the murder of Michael O’Dwyer and hanged in July 1940.
In March 1940, Indian National Congress leader Jawaharlal Nehru condemned Udham’s actions as pointless. However, in 1962, Nehru changed his stance and paid respect to Udham, saying, ‘I salute Shaheed-E-Azam Udham Singh with reverence who had kissed the noose so that we may be free.’
His sacrifice and courage strengthened the spirit of the struggle for Indian independence, which was achieved in 1947.
After India gained independence, Udham’s ashes were brought to India and scattered in the Sutlej River, in the same place as the ashes of his idol, Bhagat Singh.
